The Report Engine is a feature that comes standard with both ECSS and CE2000 Version 7 and higher. It provides for the creation of custom reports based on data captured by these programs during normal claims processing. The Report Engine is a separate program with its own installation and Users Guide.
The data available from the Report Engine allows you to better respond to routine requests by management for production reports relating to claims processing and monitoring of system usage. It can also help with the specialized reporting needs associated with audits, the review of specific claim histories, drug utilization and so forth.
Collecting this information is as easy as turning on a single option in ECSS or CE2000.
Both ECSS and CE2000 capture 40 basic fields of information about every NCPDP Version 5.1 or D.0 transaction they process. The System Administrator can specify up to 40 additional NCPDP fields that are unique to the Users business requirements. This data is organized in such a way that it can be accessed using Structured Query Language (SQL).
The Report Engine accesses this data to produce reports. Reports can be based on any of several basic layouts. Users can create a custom report by selecting a basic layout, then assigning a report name, and the data to be included in each report column. The Report Engine takes care of the rest, providing page numbers, record counts and column totals.
Finalized reports can be displayed, zoomed, printed and exported to Text or HTML files. Even the SQL statement that was used to create the report data can be displayed. After a report is finalized, its layout can be saved and reused whenever desired. Custom report layouts can even be modified as needed or used to create new custom report layouts.
The Report Engine can work with single or multiple years of data. It can provide reports on data collected from single or multiple systems attached to a network share.
The ECSS or CE2000 System Administrator can determine which users have access to the Report Engine and set User ID and Password requirements for them. The System Administrator also selects any additional User-defined fields to be collected.
Because the Report Engine databases can be queried using industry standard SQL, it is even possible to develop your own reports using a separate database management program.
